"E-TEN glofiish M800"

PDA Essentials & GPS Advisor
Issue: 73/2008
On test: E-TEN Glofiish M800
While E-TEN's PDAs don't have the benefit of operator subsidies, they remain popular. This has to be because E-TEN packs in the features and usually comes up with nice designs to boot. In the case of the M800, the company does it again as far as the features are concerned, but it has made one rather basic mistake on the hardware design front.    More

"O2 XDA Orbit"

ZDNet
Published on: 3/2008
On test: O2 XDA Orbit 2
O2 launched its original Xda in 2002. At the time it was one of the few Windows Mobile devices with an integrated mobile phone. Times have changed and now it is unusual to see a Windows Mobile device without SIM support. In the intervening period O2 has successfully maintained and developed its Xda series, and the Xda Orbit 2 updates the original Xda Orbit. Its key features include a GPS receiver and navigation software.    More

"E-TEN Glofiish M800"

On test: E-TEN Glofiish M800
E-TEN, which has recently been acquired by Acer, launches a steady stream of handhelds under its Glofiish label. Recent models we have examined include the X800 and the M700. The Glofiish M800 is an update of the M700, and comes complete with slide-out keyboard. It's jam-packed with features, but we do have one serious problem with the hardware design.    More

"O2 XDA Orbit 2"

On test: O2 XDA Orbit 2
The O2 Xda Orbit 2 is a rebranded version of the HTC Cruise, an all-in-one smart phone running Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It's also the successor to the original Orbit, which was the first Xda device to have built-in GPS. A year on, we don't find built-in GPS to be such a big deal anymore, so how does it stand up against the competition? We put it through the paces to find out.    More

Windows CE PDAs / Pocket PCs

A PDA was originally designed with the businessman in mind. It would fuse a calendar, address book, to-do list, and indeed everything else that was to be found in a 1980s filofax into one small electronic device. Since then the technology has moved on and the PocketPC came to market as the next evolutionary step in the world of palm-top computing. Now, in addition to all the previous features, PocketPCs have added colour screens, MP3 support, video playing capabilities, cameras, wireless internet connections, games, GPS navigation software and now even run their own version of the popular Microsoft Windows software, Windows CE and Windows Mobile. In addition to a great deal of software being available for PocketPCs there is also a number of hardware add-ons that can extend its capabilities. These include extra memory, pre-loaded memory cards, mini-keyboards, W-LAN cards etc. Most PocketPCs rely on a touch screen for data entry, utilising sophisticated handwriting recognition software to translate the motion of a stylus on the screen into digital data.
