Stereo Receivers

Now, with the advent of multichannel audio and surround sound, stereo receivers are being pushed closer and closer towards the scrapheap. A stereo receiver works with only two audio channels. This was a great advancement over monaural sound and provides two discrete sound sources for each ear. This proved a closer match to the way our ears actually hear sound and was used unchanged as the standard recording method for over sixty years. A stereo receiver combines the functions of an amplifier, radio and can be connected to a video source. In two speaker configurations a stereo receiver can often offer better sound quality than if a 5.1 receiver were to downmix the signal itself. There are usually many connectors so the receiver can be plugged into a computer, tv, CD player, DVD player and MP3 player simultaneously and the source selected by using a remote control or selector on the unit itself.
