"Brother MFC-7840W"

Issue: 12/2008
On test: Brother MFC-7840W
Since MFDs reached price parity with standard printers, sales have gone through the roof. It is not hard to see why when for the same price as a bog-standard inkjet printer you can add in scanning and copying features. However, pay a little more and you can pick up a device like the Brother MFC-7840W with its print, scan, copy, fax and automatic document feeder. So can this network-ready mono laser find a place in your office?    More

On test: Hewlett-Packard LaserJet M1120 MFP
All-in-one machines have outstripped sales of single-function printers in the ink-jet market, but have been slower to appear with laser engines. HP has started to redress this balance and the LaserJet M1120 MFP, an entry-level, mono laser all-in-one, is designed for home and small office use. For anybody used to working with inkjet-based all-in-ones, the LaserJet M1120 MFP is surprisingly tall. The laser engine in the lower half of the machine takes up quite a bit more room than an ink-jet engine, but the machine has a look of solidity, with its slate grey columns down either side.    More

On test: Xerox Phaser 6110MFP/X
Xerox has a reputation for high quality print reproduction, carried forward from the days of its supremacy in photocopiers. It offers a lot of colour laser printers, from personal devices up to departmental machines and its range of multifunction machines is now augmented by the Phaser 6110MFP, available in S and X versions. The Phaser 6110MFP/X, reviewed here, includes fax facilities as well as print, scan and copy.    More

"Samsung SCX-4500"

On test: Samsung SCX-4500
Consider the following: Laser printers - a) are small, beige boxes that spew printed pages. b) have lots of buttons at the front and insipid LCD displays with no proper tails on g, j, p, q or y. c) can be made into all-in-ones by gluing scanners on top, sideways. While all three of the preceding statements may be true of most laser all-in-ones, none are true of Samsung's SCX-4500. It's black with a blue LED display and has its scanner stuck on the right way round.    More
