1 Notebook (approx. £260)
TechRadar UK
Published on 10/2009
On test: Archos 10
"Archos is known for its portable media players, but also has a range of netbooks, including the Archos 10. As the name implies, this is a 10-inch netbook, offering an affordable entry into the netbook market." Review details: Single Test    Test results

On test: Medion Akoya Mini E1312
Somewhere between an netbook and notebook, Medion’s Akoya E1312 is an odd one. An 11.6in widescreen and specs that give it more power than a netbook, it's still light enough in performance for video editing and serious gaming to be beyond it. Review details: Single Test    Test results

On test: HANNspree Europe Hannsnote SN10e1
Better known for its monitors, Hannspree's first venture into notebooks, the Hannsnote SN10e1 is in fact an MSI Wind with the logos changed. With standard netbook configuration, there isn't much to distinguish it from the others. Review details: Single Test    Test results
"Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell - 11.6in Netbook Review"
1 Notebook (approx. £370)
TrustedReviews
Published on 7/2009
On test: Asus Eee PC 1101HA
Taking netbook screen sizes to above 11in, Asus' Eee PC 1101HA swaps out the N270 and N280 Atom processors for the slower Z520. The Intel GMA 500 graphics is a good inclusion though, but not so useful unless you have Windows 7 or Vista. Review details: Single Test. One netbook was reviewed and rated on design, features, performance and value.    Test results

Laptops up to 12''

Ultra portable laptops are perfect for both students and businessmen. They can offer just as much computing horsepower as a desktop PC, take up about as much space as a textbook and probably weigh less. The small keyboards of older models have been replaced with often full-sized keys in 12” laptops and even smaller models have improved ergonomics to a significant degree. An ultraportable, thanks to its long battery life and small format factor, is also perfect for watching movies on the plane. Even the seats in low cost airlines have enough space for such a small computer.

The only problem with such a small computer is the price, less is definitely more - more money. A small laptop will generally cost more than, say, a 15in model, but the components used will have been specially designed and are often of better quality. Most will now include a dual core processor and at least 512 MB of RAM, a DVD/CD is available on all but the smallest models, but these can often be expanded by using a docking station to add full sized keyboard, CD and DVD writing capabilities and speakers.
