Product information and further reviews

Sennheiser HD 700 first look TrustedReviews 1/2012 - The HD 700 from Sennheiser comes in between the more expensive HD 800 and the slightly cheaper HD 650 models. This range is far from cheap, so will the HD 700 offer enough to make it worth the high price tag?

Sennheiser RS 220 TrustedReviews 3/2012 - Wireless headphones are known for the potential problems that can arise when using them, such as lower sound quality than wired ones. Will the Sennheiser RS 220 address these issues?

The Stretch MacWorld 12/2011 - The combination of different materials used in the construction of The Stretch and its transparent plastic headband give it a positively space-age look.

JVC HA-M750 MacWorld 12/2011 - The square earpads of the HA-M750s make them quite a distinctive offering, at least as far as looks are concerned.

Philips Fidelio L1 TechRadar UK 3/2012 - The Philips Fidelio L1 premium headphones can be used both at home and when you are on the go. If you really care about sound quality, can these headphones fit the bill?

Lindy Premium Hi-Fi TrustedReviews 9/2011 - Headphones as large as the Lindy Premium Hi-Fi headphones are really destined to remain at home, rather than carrying around like you might a smaller, less obvious pair.

“16 head and earphones reviewed” - over ear headphones iPhone & more 2/2010 - Review details: Eight sets of over ear headphones were tested. Test criteria were sound quality, noise reduction, comfort and value for money.

Griffin MyPhones kids' headphones MacWorld 8/2011 - As children have much more sensitive ears than us adults - who've most likely already damaged our hearing with loud music - it is essential to select the right headphones for them.

HP Envy 14 Beats Edition Expert Reviews 7/2011 - With minimalist styling and sleek lines, the Envy laptops from HP are very chic. By joining forces with Dr Dre, the hip hop star, HP have developed the even more attractive Envy 14 Beats Edition which is finished with an eye-catching metallic silver.

Short test: Sennheiser MM 550 Hardwareluxx.de 11/2010 - We already saw one of the cheaper bluetooth headphones in our test with the Sennheiser PXC 310 BT. Even if the price was around the 190 euro mark we can still use the word ‘cheap’ because today’s test candidates are breaking into new price categories. You’ll pay a hefty 320 euros for the Sennheiser MM 550, but for the price you’ll also get quite a few additional features. We put the model through its paces, even testing it in day to day situations such as on a long-haul flight, where the noise reduction can show what it’s got up its sleeve.

B&W P5 Stuff TV 4/2010 - Bowers & Wilkins has been turning out the sort of speakers that get audiophiles frothing at the ears for donkeys years, but the British company has recently turned its attentions towards the world of portable audio.

Griffin MyPhones headphones for children Pocket-lint.co.uk 11/2009 - Is the Griffin MyPhones really going to impress the kids?

Griffin MyPhones Electric Pig 9/2009 - Designed with children in mind, the Griffin MyPhones can't go above 85 decibels. But is that just a good, common sense call, or has the 'nanny state' struck again?

Comedy name, but Wangs ring true What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 7/2011 - Fanny Wang is not a real person, merely a persona for a company that apparently has two simple goals: to grab the attention of the mainstream public, and to out-Beat Monster's Beats by Dre range. You're unlikely ever to forget the name, so it's succeeded on the first count, and, in terms of sound quality, it's succeeded on the second, too. ...

Sennheiser HD 650 Electric Pig 11/2009 - These Sennheiser HD 650 cans are all about getting the most out of your vast record collection, even if your tastes range from Bach to Blur. In fact, the whole idea of these open-backed beasts is to cater for all kinds of tunes. The question is, are they worth that hefty £270 price tag? Read our full Sennheiser HD 650 review now for our verdict.

Information about the category

Headphones are small speakers that, as opposed to earphone, fit around the ear, often with a headband, and allow the user to listen to music or other audio without disturbing anyone in the immediate vicinity or indeed being disturbed by them. Alongside standard earbuds, wired headphones are available in Hi-Fi and professional studio quality, these are often a lot bigger than traditional headphones and use a thicker cable. The better the cable used, the higher the fidelity of sound reaches the headphones. Some headphone manufacturers use a spiral cable which takes up less space when not in use but when stretched a slight tug can be felt which could put some people off. When deciding for a professional set of headphones it is better to get a model that allows the user to change and replace the cable themselves, as to have the work done by a professional can be quite expensive. Headphones with only one cable leading to both ears are generally lighter but more prone to get pulled to one side, a twin cable set is more resilient when it comes to accidental tugging of the cable. Most professional grade sets will come with the larger 6mm jack so if planning to also use these headphones with an MP3 player for instance be sure to get the correct adapter. Also think about whether a portable player's amplifier will be powerful enough to drive a full sized set of headphones. It is also possible to buy wireless headphones and sets with built in surround sound decoders and virtual surround.
