Dreambox DM800HDse PVR - Linux digital receiver TobiTech.de 1/2011 - The second edition of the popular HD 800 is now available and it’s called the DM 800HDse. In comparison to its predecessor, the new second edition model comes with an HDMI port, a colourful LCD display and, most importantly, a faster processor - the same 400 MHZ processor that you’ll also find in its bigger brother, the 8000HD. In addition to this the tuner has also been improved and instead of just one Smartcard reader this device now has two. ...

Virgin Media TiVo The Gadget Show 10/2011 - The most recent PVR to appear is Virgin Media's TiVo box. It follows closely behind the Sky+ HD box, but can it overtake to gain the pole position?

Icecrypt T2400 HD PVR Expert Reviews 7/2011 - The Korean-built, UK-designed T2400 is Icecrypt's first PVR to hit the shelves.

Virgin Media TiVo 1TB Expert Reviews 5/2011 - Not everyone can get Virgin Media's cable services, but they are more widespread than you may think with around half the homes in the country covered by the service. Of those there's almost five million homes using its TV and broadband services, and around one million using one of Virgin Media's V+ PVR boxes.

Virgin Media Powered By TiVo TrustedReviews 4/2011 - On the face of it, Virgin Media Powered by TiVo (or TiVo as we’ll be calling it from now on) is just another set-top box giving you access to a host of channels, HD content, some 3D content and on-demand services. It is only when you begin to play with it however that you realise just how much more powerful it may be. It claims to be innovative and intuitive and will know you better than you know yourself – only after it gets to know you a little though.

Icecrypt T2400 (1TB) TrustedReviews 1/2011 - With its value-adding features and excellent operating system, Icecrypt’s T2200 was arguably the best Freeview HD receiver of last year, and since reviewing it we’ve been eagerly awaiting the PVR version. Well, it’s finally arrived and looks like a terrific prospect, boasting twin Freeview HD tuners, up to 2TB of hard-disk capacity and a superb-looking spec sheet.

Sharp TU-T2HR32 TrustedReviews 10/2010 - The TU-T2HR32 is the PVR version of the TU-T2 Freeview HD receiver we reviewed back in June. As such, it looks to bring you all the same free HD telly goodness but with the added bonus of being able to record those hi-def programmes and watch them whenever you like. In all honesty, we weren't particularly enamoured by the TU-T2 due to its lack of features and below-par pictures, but here's hoping the addition of hard-disk recording will see it go up in our estimation.

Thomson DTI 6300-16 - Top Up TV Anytime TrustedReviews 5/2007 - Television 'on-demand' has hit the headlines recently with both ITV and the BBC announcing a couple of weeks back that they'd be making all of their programs available on a catch-up basis online. But these aren't the only developments aimed at changing the way we watch the box. BT, for instance, has just launched its Vision service, combining a Freeview digital TV recorder with on-demand movies and other content over broadband. Channel 4 has been operating a selective download service – 4od – for a while now. Sky, meanwhile, has its Anytime service, which combines TV you can download and watch on your PC with a jukebox service, which records a selection of TV overnight and stores it to watch anytime you like. HD subscribers get this service for nothing and, very soon, so will owners of recent Sky+ boxes. Now, Top Up TV, which supplies premium channels via terrestrial digital, is getting in on the act, with a service, coincidentally also called Anytime (I hear the pitter patter of tiny lawyers' feet), and it's this that I'm reviewing here.

Topfield TF5810PVRt Personal Video Recorder TrustedReviews 4/2008 - Topfield's TF5810PVRt makes other video recorders seem like they are something from the Jurassic period. What is the TF5810PVRt packing that has others running scared?

The DVD recorder was only able to keep its place at the top of the technological must-have list for a short while. A hard disk recorder is now the newest and coolest way to record your favourite shows and movies and, when connected to a digital source, offers the advantage of being able to perfectly capture the original stream with no loss in quality. A hard disk recorder also allows the user to pause live TV. The so called 'time-shift' function lets you go off for as long as you need and then return to the show you were watching at the point you left it. This is a great way to avoid annoying adverts, simply start the time-shift and wait ten or fifteen minutes before sitting down to enjoy the show, skipping over the adverts when necessary and catching up with the programme to watch the end credits at the same time as everyone else. A hard disk recorder also offers an interesting feature that is perfect for sports fans. A constant buffer can be held on the hard drive so as to enable the viewer to perform his own instant replays. A hard disk recorder is also kinder on the house, hundreds of films and shows can be saved on the 3.5” internal drive, something which in the past would have required metres of shelving or cabinets. Hard disk recorders are available in sizes up to 400 GB and different quality setting mean that less important recordings won't sit on the hard drive taking up valuable space reserved for every football match of the season. Connection to the television is usually by SCART cable and many devices offer a Dolby digital output for connection to a surround sound receiver. Try and get to use a display model in the shop before buying as some menu structures are more easy to use than others and some on screen displays more appealing.
