Although Panasonic has been putting the majority of its attention into Secure Digital as the next-generation recording format after tape, it isn't putting all its eggs into one basket. Indeed, some of its models sit on the fence, giving you a choice of more than one recording option. The SDR-H250 is billed as a ‘hybrid' model, as it can record video to hard disk and SD memory. Whereas lots of camcorders offer SD for digital photography, the SDR-H250 supports video recording to SDHC as well, should the hard disk not be sufficient.
The SDR-H250 is another of Panasonic's unfeasibly low-priced three-CCD models.

Hard Drive Camcorders
Whether a camcorder uses tapes or DVDs there will always be a loud whirring, a spin up and spin down cycle, something to lose and then a spare unwanted tape or DVD once the video has been transferred on to other media. A hard disk camcorder records onto a small hard drive of around 30GB to offer over thirty hours of DVD quality video. This video can then be easily burned to a DVD without the need for conversion or re encoding as is the case with DV camcorders. A USB connection is the standard method for transferring video from a hard disk camcorder but firewire ports may also be available on some models, this is however becoming more and more rare. Hard disk camcorders are the same size or smaller than a miniDV model and offer far higher storage capacity. Prices start upwards of 400 pounds.
