Product information and further reviews for Floorstanding Speakers

Round & Round Hi-Fi World September 2011 - If there's something that can surely be said about the JO45/1s right from the off, it's that their looks will hardly leave anybody indifferent.

Black Devil HiFi Test 3/2011 - For the past thirty years, Berlin-based company Teufel has devoted itself to the development and production of high-quality, yet affordable, loudspeakers. The new T 500 is the top model from the brand’s latest range of Hi-Fi equipment and, as usual, is available at an extremely interesting price.

Hybrid drive HiFi Test 3/2011 - ‘Why change a product that’s been a top performer for years?’ This is the mindset of Danish loudspeaker producer Dali. That’s why it’s only logical that the Nordic company decided just to bring out a minimally updated line of their Ikon model series: they’ve called it the ‘MK2 version’.

Big Time Hi-Fi World August 2011 - When it comes to price, size and weight, there are few floorstanders that can compare to the Etains, but can the same thing be said of their sound quality?

Totally Naim? hifi & records 3/2011 - Rarely do you come across a set of speakers that is as divisive as this one - but why? Naim’s Ovator S-400 model can do a whole lot more than its predecessor.

An activists grilling ... HIFI-STARS Nr. 11 (6-8/2011) - The company KS Digital is probably not all that well-known amongst high-end fans, which comes as no surprise seeing as the German-based development team mainly makes studio monitors for professionals. But recently they’ve come up with two models which have been specially developed for domestic use. The slightly more expensive KSD 2030 is one of them; a device which we’ve already taken a look at. This time we’ll be examining the somewhat cheaper KSD 2020 model which differs from its series counterpart in quite a number of areas. ...

Hunting for harmony stereoplay 2/2010 - Nowadays you don’t always have to shell out 1000 euros for a set of high-performance brand name speakers. But the central units that come with them will often leave your head spinning. Review details: Six loud speakers were reviewed. Two were rated “good - very good” and four “good”. Test criteria were sound (naturalness, fine resolution, dynamic range ...) as well as lab readings, practice and valency.

Stamina AUDIO 12/2010 - If you love your bass, then floor-standing speakers, even in the 700 euro class, should be top of your list. ‘AUDIO’ took a look at four candidates which aim to deliver a particularly exciting bassline. Review details: Four floor-standing loud speakers were tested. Test criteria were neutrality, detail accuracy, localisation, spatiality, fine dynamics, maximum volume level, bass quality, bass depth and processing.

Canton à la carte stereoplay 12/2010 - From compact ‘on wall’ loudspeakers to superb floor standing speakers - Canton impresses by offering a wide range of products at affordable prices in the shape of its new GLE family. Review details: We compared six loudspeakers. Test criteria were sound, measurements, practice and valency.

Analysis Audio Omega Hi-Fi News 6/2011 - A large panel speaker, certainly, but the Omega is not a doppelgänger from audio's past.

Happy without Wires PLAYER 5/2010 - The full name of the loudspeakers is actually ‘Parrot Zikmu’, but the name which caught on was simply Parrot - it’s just more convenient and more suitable for Philippe Starck’s elegant designer pieces. ...

High carat stereoplay 11/2010 - Canton has once again decided to completely revamp its elegant carat series. The flagship model, the 790.2, is now slightly wider and smaller but its sound is still as colossal as ever.

Teufel Again! LP - Magazin für analoges HiFi & Vinyl-Kultur 3/2010 - The Berlin direct distributer, Teufel, is getting serious with the dual channel. After the deep bass massive Ultima 7 (LP 2/08) and the outstandingly inexpensive Ultima 60, a stereo speaker for the highest demands is next: the Ultima 800.

Free at Last HiFi einsnull 1/2010 - The Parrots are no ordinary HiFi loudspeakers; already the design suggests that they are something very special. And it’s true, Philippe Starck’s floor standing speakers offer far more than other HiFi speakers: The keyword is ‘wireless’.

One League Higher AUDIO 1/2010 - The home theatre specialist Teufel successfully penetrates the stereo high end market. And Quadral successfully manages the balancing act between classy and affordable. Review details: Two loud speakers were reviewed. They were rated 90 and 91 points. Among the test criteria were neutrality, detail accuracy and fine dynamics.

Quirky Solo can't quite cut it What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 2/2013 - Parrot has a long history of producing innovative products such as digital picture frames and iPhone-controlled helicopters. It's no surprise, then, that this wireless speaker dock is on the quirky side. ...

Heco The Statement Hi-Fi News 9/2010 - A heavyweight speaker combining a half century of know-how with plenty of up-to-the-minute tech.

Multitalent stereoplay 12/2009 - Active loudspeakers are flexible like never before. They even support bluetooth and WLAN. Review details: Single Test. Test criteria were sound (naturalness, precise resolution, bass quality ...), measurements, practice and valency.

Wilson Audio Sophia 3 Hi-Fi News Yearbook 2010 - While there's absolutely no such thing as a 'universal' comoponent in the truest sense, there are those which are generous with the way they interact with other items. WATT Puppies can be ornery. They can make mincemeat of amplifiers. Conversely, Sophias don't make such demands. We've even run 'em with a £700 Croft. ...

Beauhorn B2 Rhapsody What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 9/2007 - Visual statements in hi-fi don't get much stronger than this. You'll never mistake the B2s for anything else - not only is their shape about as outlandish as we've seen, Beauhorn can even paint these speakers in one of 98 different colours. In an odd way, it's a shame they look as striking as they do, because their appearance steals the spotlight from their sound, which is just as arresting.

True audiophiles are willing to sacrifice a minimalist lifestyle for sound quality. This leads them to purchase generally large speaker sets up to a meter high and 50 cm wide. A column speaker integrates all different speakers into one unit, this means there is no need for a separate sub woofer and as all frequency ranges are coming from the same location, there is no loss of phase.

In a larger room column speakers are the only way to reach high, space filling volumes. A standard speaker set will be too attenuated by the air to be audible in every corner of the room. Such speakers are therefore commonly used in churches and halls. When used in smaller rooms and homes with an appropriate amplifier these can thus generate truly immersive sound with very high fidelity and volumes.

Column speakers are usually best mounted on so-called 'spikes' these make the speaker more stable and also impede too much loss though the floor and through movement. Large column speakers can go together to make the perfect home cinema system, however they are more power hungry than a smaller set and take up much more space. A pair of good stereo speakers can also cost more than a whole home cinema in-a-box system containing 6 speakers and a DVD player.
