Product information and further reviews for Floorstanding Speakers

Round & Round Hi-Fi World September 2011 - If there's something that can surely be said about the JO45/1s right from the off, it's that their looks will hardly leave anybody indifferent.

Big Time Hi-Fi World August 2011 - When it comes to price, size and weight, there are few floorstanders that can compare to the Etains, but can the same thing be said of their sound quality?

Totally Naim? hifi & records 3/2011 - Rarely do you come across a set of speakers that is as divisive as this one - but why? Naim’s Ovator S-400 model can do a whole lot more than its predecessor.

Why Zero is our hero HI-FI Choice August 2011 - Audio Note manufacture some of the most alluring hi-fi equipment available on the market, yet they offer the Zero system at a nice pocket-friendly price. Review details: Three audio components from the same manufacturer were reviewed and rated on sound quality, value for money, build quality and features.

Black Devil HiFi Test 3/2011 - For the past thirty years, Berlin-based company Teufel has devoted itself to the development and production of high-quality, yet affordable, loudspeakers. The new T 500 is the top model from the brand’s latest range of Hi-Fi equipment and, as usual, is available at an extremely interesting price.

Acoustic Insight Aurousal VSx Hi-Fi News 9/2011 - The VSx is a re-design of last year's VS, but are the changes merely cosmetic or has its performance actually improved?

Analysis Audio Omega Hi-Fi News 6/2011 - A large panel speaker, certainly, but the Omega is not a doppelgänger from audio's past.

Happy without Wires PLAYER 5/2010 - The full name of the loudspeakers is actually ‘Parrot Zikmu’, but the name which caught on was simply Parrot - it’s just more convenient and more suitable for Philippe Starck’s elegant designer pieces. ...

Wilson Audio Alexia Hi-Fi News 3/2013 - Those who can't afford Wilson Audio's Alexandria XLF flagship or lack the space it demands are in luck, as the company has listened to its users and decided to combine the Alexandria XLF's sonic prowess with the Sasha's form factor to create the Alexia.

The little sister STEREO 4/2011 - Little sisters can be sweet, annoying ... or even your arch enemy. There’s a possibility of the latter becoming true in the case of the Naim Ovator S 400.

Fink’s kid STEREO 9/2011 - The A360 from Boston delivers harmonious sound at a bargain price.

Always something different STEREO 4/2011 - Nubert’s nuVero 10 offers elaborate sound adjustment options.

Dali Ikon 5 MK2 - Hybrid drive hifitest.de 7/2011 - ‘Why change a product that’s been a top performer for years?’ This is the mindset of loudspeaker producer Dali. That’s why it’s only logical that the Nordic company just brought out a marginally updated line of their Ikon model series: they’ve called it the ‘MK2 version’.

Teufel Again! LP - Magazin für analoges HiFi & Vinyl-Kultur 3/2010 - The Berlin direct distributer, Teufel, is getting serious with the dual channel. After the deep bass massive Ultima 7 (LP 2/08) and the outstandingly inexpensive Ultima 60, a stereo speaker for the highest demands is next: the Ultima 800.

Lady Diamond STEREO 12/2010 - Although you could easily mistake this for the ‘baby’ of the 800 series, the 802 is just as complex as the B&W flagship model and is the secret star of the range. There is little compromise required, yet the price is 8000 Euro lower. ‘STEREO’ had a good listen.

The power of magnets and the sophistication of diamonds image hifi 4/2010 - Perhaps it is better to just forget everything you think you know about the B&W 804. The new version is not the same - it’s completely different.

Knight Life Hi-Fi World October 2010 - Noel Keywood listens to Castle's new Knight 5 floorstanding loudspeaker...

Oval Teeny Hi-Fi World October 2010 - In the big scheme of high end loudspeakers, Vivid's V1.5s are small fry, in physical size at least. But in sonic terms, they're an altogether different cup of cocoa, says David Price.

Quirky Solo can't quite cut it What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 2/2013 - Parrot has a long history of producing innovative products such as digital picture frames and iPhone-controlled helicopters. It's no surprise, then, that this wireless speaker dock is on the quirky side. ...

Parrot Zikmu Macwelt 2/2010 - These loudspeakers, designed by Philippe Starck and manufactured by Parrot, impress with elegant cylindrical lines and high gloss surface. Review details: Single Test. Test criteria were performance, features, handling and ergonomy.

Heco The Statement Hi-Fi News 9/2010 - A heavyweight speaker combining a half century of know-how with plenty of up-to-the-minute tech.

Think Bigger AUDIO 2/2009 - Think big: According to this motto Canton, Heco and Nubert are constructing gigantic sounding floor standing speakers of the 2500 Euro class. But size alone isn’t the only thing that matters. Review details: Three floor standing speakers were tested and rated 1 x “outstanding”, and 2 x “very good”. Among the test criteria were neutrality, detail accuracy and localisation.

Posh and bucks HI-FI Choice March 2011 - It's the best-looking hi-fi in the world and as Jimmy Hughes discovers, the luxurious big Macs sound every bit as good as they look.

Brilliant Performance HiFi Lautsprecher Test Jahrbuch 1/2009 - There it stands in our test room, Canton’s new Vento 890 DC: Visually upgraded with the latest features and extensive equipment. But can this noble package also keep its promise in regards to sound?

Harvest Time AUDIO 11/2007 - The loudspeaker innovations from the IFA, the German consumer electronics show, are now available for the public. Audio has already tested four particularly promising pairs between 1000 and 4000 Euros. Review details: Four loudspeakers were tested and rated 1 x “superb”, 2 x “very good” and 1 x “good”. Test criteria were neutrality, detail accuracy, localisation, facilities, fine dynamics, maximum volume level, bass quality, bass depth and processing.

Giant Killer STEREO 1/2007 - With the model 700, Magnat expands its Quantum series with a mid range line, which, with its sophisticated design, poses a surprising threat for top models.

Crusaders lack fighting spirit What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 1/2007 - We are disappointed. The Crusader III tops Ruark's Heritage series, and having loved the other two models in the range, we expected much of the flagship. As things turned out, these new speakers fall short of both our expectations and the standards of the best at this price.

True audiophiles are willing to sacrifice a minimalist lifestyle for sound quality. This leads them to purchase generally large speaker sets up to a meter high and 50 cm wide. A column speaker integrates all different speakers into one unit, this means there is no need for a separate sub woofer and as all frequency ranges are coming from the same location, there is no loss of phase.

In a larger room column speakers are the only way to reach high, space filling volumes. A standard speaker set will be too attenuated by the air to be audible in every corner of the room. Such speakers are therefore commonly used in churches and halls. When used in smaller rooms and homes with an appropriate amplifier these can thus generate truly immersive sound with very high fidelity and volumes.

Column speakers are usually best mounted on so-called 'spikes' these make the speaker more stable and also impede too much loss though the floor and through movement. Large column speakers can go together to make the perfect home cinema system, however they are more power hungry than a smaller set and take up much more space. A pair of good stereo speakers can also cost more than a whole home cinema in-a-box system containing 6 speakers and a DVD player.
