"NAD Viso proves an all-round hit"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 7/2008
On test: NAD Viso Five
NAD's audio products are more well-known for their bass-heavy performance than their design but the Viso seeks to buck this trend with smooth curves and silver highlights. Can its sound match its exterior?    More

"Samsung DVD-1080P8 DVD Player"

TrustedReviews
Published on: 5/2008
On test: Samsung DVD-1080P8
The DVD-1080P8 is a nicely priced and is easy to use, especially in combination with a full HD TV. So is this the best way to step-up to high definition?    More

"Alluring second-room solution"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 12/2007
On test: Onkyo DR-815
This Onkyo fits the 'kid's bedroom entertainment' criteria rather neatly. It's a compact, tidily finished DVD player with two channels of amplification, AM/FM radio and SACD/DVD-A ability too. It also has a preout for a subwoofer (if you must) and preouts for centre and rear channels (if you absolutely must). Scart, S-Video and composite are your video output choices; attach a couple of speakers, and you're off.    More

DVD Receivers / Tuners

A DVD receiver brings together everything you need to enjoy perfect cinema sound in one, aesthetically pleasing, space saving unit. For those who want to save space in small rooms this is a great alternative to a separate DVD player, surround sound amplifier and Hi-Fi system. For even fewer components, some players also claim to offer true immersive, surround sound from only two speakers. Technologies like 'Dolby Virtual Speakers' not only make this claim plausible but have fooled die hard film fanatics and home cinema lovers in blind tests. The DVD players are often capable of handling other file formats like VideoCD, MP3, WMA and even creating slide shows from JPEG files, support for DivX is also being built into most newer models. DVD receivers offer a variety of connection options, and can also be used as an amplifier for external devices like computers and MP3 players.
