"Logitech Z Cinema Surround Sound System"

Computing Made Easy
Issue: 126
On test: Logitech Z Cinéma
If you are trying to create a well tuned media system on your PC then the first and most important place to start is with the speakers. Without good sound it will be hard to impress. So does the Logitech Z Cinema Surround Sound System have what it takes to make your PC heard?    More

"Sandberg Panther Sound 2.1"

Computing Made Easy
Issue: 123
On test: Sandberg Panther Sound 2.1
The Panther Sound 2.1 setup from Sandberg consists, as the name suggests, of a subwoofer and a couple of satellite speakers. They reside a step up from the standard set of speakers often found bundled with PCs and at a very attractive price.    More

"BoBo your iPod sounds today"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: Lars & Ivan BK-21 BoBo
Lars & Ivan is a chummy-sounding name, isn't it? The company refers to the BK-21's speakers as 'BoBo' in its literature - not so much chummy as twee. And then we find that 'BoBo' derives from 'bohemian' and 'bourgeois', which is when it all gets properly weird.    More

"Eclipses make their point"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 8/2007
On test: Fujitsu Ten Eclipse TD Lulét 307PAII
We awarded the last Eclipse amp and speaker package we tested - the £400 TD307PA system - five stars back in February 2006. This is the replacement, the TD307PAII.    More

Computer Speakers

In the early days of computing speakers were either integrated into the system or built into the monitor. The trend towards external speakers came with the advent of 16 and 32 bit sound cards but were often weak passive units with little control and not very good sound quality. A decent set of speakers is essential for applications as diverse as gaming, PC language learning, internet radio, keeping in touch with friends and family across the world with VoIP software or simply for listening to the latest tracks from your favourite band. Computer speakers are housed in specially shielded boxes so the internal magnets do not damage the monitor or internal components of a PC and can be bought in up to 7.1 speaker configurations. Such a system is made up of seven smaller satellite speakers and a powerful subwoofer to add depth and bass when watching DVD films or just for adding that extra immersive element to a first person shooter.
