A review of the Sony BRAVIA DAV-F200 Home Theatre sempre audio.at 6/2009 - Most of the time you don’t need a fully-fledged home theatre system. For a lot of users, factors such as compact dimensions, fast and easy set-up and, of course, a sleek design count more than being able to use all the possible functions to the absolute max by selecting individual components. This is because compact systems also offer extensive features and mean you don’t have to make any sacrifices even when it comes to quality (if you pick the right system that is).

Information about the category
In the past, in order to recreate the experience of being in the cinema at home, there were four things you needed; a DVD player with digital out, a Dolby Digital surround sound receiver, a set of 5.1 speakers and a big screen TV or projector. At the moment the prices of big screen TVs have come down in price so as to make them available for almost anyone who wants one. And it is not just the price that has shrunk. Miniaturisation of components has meant that the sound components and the DVD player can now be unified into one box that is smaller than either of the two older units. There has also been development in the speaker world and this has afforded us the possibility of recreating the effect of a 5.1 surround sound speaker set from only two speakers. Manufacturers claim that with the speakers positioned right, the sound waves will bounce off the walls of the room and totally surround the listener. Some systems offer first class picture quality and sound good enough to fool a number of reviewers in blind tests. For such systems though, you are looking to spend around seven hundred pounds or more. However, if space is at a premium and style is what you are after, such a device can be just what you are looking for.
