"... Sure you can see the compression, and there's visible fringing in high-contrast shots, but the overall quality is pretty reasonable for what they are. As a camera phone it's the best I've tried."

Shot at greatness

The Sony Ericsson K800i camera phone proved its mettle in GadgetCenter online magazine, coming away with first place.

The camera phone was put to the test in 9 magazines most of them feeling the product did at least have some merit.
Sony has a habit of using its expertise in one technology area to improve its chances in another, this can be seen in the inclusion of a Blu-ray drive in its PlayStation 3 games console and the branding of its mobile phones as either Walkman (for music phones) or CyberShot when it comes to cameraphones. The K800i is a mobile phone with integrated 3.2MP CyberShot digital camera with autofocus, macro mode and xenon flash. As the main selling point for the phone, much is made of this feature, which TrustedReviews says 'does wonders for the idea of a mobile phone as a ‘snap and share’ and ‘snap and keep’ and even ‘snap and print’ device'. In addition to this, RegHardware ran the phone in a group test of devices focusing on gaming ability, referring to the K800 as 'no slouch' in this respect with 'crisp' 3D graphics and the advantage of having a small joystick mounted under the screen to make games that little bit easier.

This phone blew the reviewers away, it won two group tests focusing on two very different functions, received an 'Editor's Choice' Award from Cnet.co.uk, coming 'Recommended' by TrustedReviews a 'Hot Product' tag from Pocket-Lint and 90% from RegHardware. All in all, this adds up to a phone that, in the words of Pocket-Lint's reviewer 'can dominate the camera phone market in the same way its Walkman branded handsets have dominated the music phone arena'.
