PC Pro declares this Samsung an all-round great notebook. Capable of matching a desktop, with especially noteworthy 3D performance, it still manages to retain its portability with a good battery life and low weight, considering the size.

The R700 has all the makings of a classic desktop replacement. Pocket Lint found its good list of specs and great value for money were enough of a draw on their own.

A good looking laptop with an array of features that will compensate for a desktop when you are on the go. It is a machine with plenty of grunt and is capable enough to handle most games. Perfect for multimedia purposes such as watching movies and television. The mini-DVD- rewriter is an added bonus allowing you to burn and re-burn DVDs whilst mobile. Its sleek and glossy design adds to it appeal. Not only does it do the job you want done quickly but it does it in style.

Some interesting features are available with the Samsung R700, including the full-sized, germ-proof keyboard. CNet.co.uk does explain it won't win any awards for speed but it is cheap and powerful enough to replace a bulky desktop system.

"... a quality desktop replacement notebook housed in an equally impressive chassis. It’s certainly capable of impressive general purpose performance, but those after a portable gaming machine need to look elsewhere."

The notebook was put through its paces in the test labs of 7 magazines and received mostly positive reviews.
Under the microscope, the Samsung R700 was able to obtain its best score of "very good" (5 out of 6 stars) in the 5/2008 issue of PC Pro magazine. Pocket-lint.co.uk online magazine gave the product a score of 8 out of 10 points in issue 6/2008, which was the lowest score it received.
The Samsung R700 was given further plaudits in the shape of; "Recommended" (PC Pro 5/2008).
