Computer Shopper magazine put the
Philips VoIP 841 internet telephony (VoIP) device
under observation and was fairly impressed, awarding it 5 out of 5 stars.
The internet telephony (VoIP) device was reviewed by 5 magazines with special attention paid to performance, and received mostly positive reviews.
The Philips VoIP841 is a dual-mode telephone, this means that it operates as a standard land-line phone as well as allowing the user to make and receive calls over the internet using a SIP service such as Skype.
The phone itself is described by many reviewers as 'stylish' comprising as it does, a glossy black finish and rounded edges, in fact, PC Pro named it the only phone that was 'attractive and pleasant to use' in their test of three VoIP phones in the June 2007 issue. The phone also features a speakerphone, and, according to Computer Shopper's review of the product, comes with 12 months of free voicemail and 120 minutes of SkypeOut calls, although both Computer Shopper and Personal Computer World make sure to point out that voicemail is only available for Skype calls and not standard landline calls.
ComputerAct!ve goes so far as to call the Philips 841 the 'best device of its ilk we've seen', with the other reviewers tending to agree, indeed, the product won a Best Buy award from Computer Shopper, and only its price and the lack of an answerphone being reasons to complain.
