Best of both

The digital SLR camera was tested in 12 different magazines and gave reviewers little cause to complain, achieving fair results accross the board.
Olympus's latest innovation in the world of the digital SLR is one of the stand-out features of its E-510 (EVOLT) camera. Along with the latest must-haves such as Image Stabilisation, Super Sonic Wave Filter sensor cleaning system and the now mature all-digital four-thirds system championed by the manufacturer, the E 510 is the second DSLR from Olympus to feature Live View, a feature found in but few SLRs. In fact, Live View is so rare, that when on starting up the camera TrustedReviews' Cliff Smith heard the sound of the mirror snapping up and down, he found himself rather perplexed and wondered whether there was something wrong with the sample he had been provided with. It was generally found to be of use although TrustedReviews found that when activated it delayed autofocus, meaning a bit of shutter lag was introduced when taking a shot. This could present problems for sports or wildlife photographers but with this live preview function turned off, they found it was capable of fast performance and could 'rattle off three frames a second'.
The best review that the Olympus E-510 Evolt could rack up was "Highly Recommended", which was given by Digital Photography Review online magazine in 11/2007. Practical Photography magazine (9/2007), gave the product its lowest score; a rating of "excellent" (4 out of 5 stars), which says a lot about its quality.
The Olympus E-510 Evolt was also able to walk away with the "Highly Recommended" (Camera Labs 6/2007), "Buy It!" (Computer act!ve 10/2007), and "Hot Product" (Pocket-lint.co.uk 11/2007) prizes.

As one of 'the cheapest Digital SLRs with both image stabilisation and live view' (DigiCamReview July 2007) the E510 is a good prosumer or hobbyist D-SLR and with its highly regarded performance makes a 'compelling package' (CameraLabs June 2007) for anyone looking to get serious with their photography.
