"... Overall, this camera produces high quality images with very low noise, and is recommended if those are your main concerns, but those looking for a more advanced camera would probably be better off looking elsewhere."

The digital SLR camera was tested in 19 magazines and gave reviewers little cause to complain, achieving fair results accross the board.
The Nikon D40 was a highly regarded camera and with only 6 megapixels to its name still managed to position itself towards the top end of the affordable D-SLR pile. The D40x is 'a radically updated version' of this camera and brings with it a bump up to 10MP and a faster continuous shooting mode but GadgetCentre found the overall impression of the camera 'cheap' and 'plasticky'. PC Advisor was also a little disappointed that the promise of the D40 was rather sold out with this release, feeling that the only reason for its release was 'to add numbers to the packaging' in response to the release of 10MP entry-level DSLRs from other manufacturers.
The Nikon D40x scored highest in TrustedReviews online magazine (4/2007) with an overall rating of 10 out of 10 points. The Test Labs of Pocket-lint.co.uk online magazine saw fit to give it a score of 8 out of 10 points (review in issue 4/2007).
The Nikon D40x was given further plaudits in the shape of; "Editor's Choice" (TrustedReviews 4/2007), "Recommended" (What Digital Camera 5/2007), and "Gold Award" (Digital Photo 6/2007).
Despite sharing some of these grumbles, Cnet found the D40X 'a very impressive camera' and recommended it primarily for first timers a view repeated in Personal Computer World who thought experienced users may prefer the more complex menu structures of some of its rivals.
