With its long background in consumer electronics and business PDAs, the iPAQ's interface is understandably accomplished, with PDA Essentials finding it the most easy to get to grips with of the four devices on test. The unit's 3D mapping was also a welcome bonus at such an affordable price and performance was stable throughout. One important feature that the magazine felt was lacking was automatic traffic alerts, but with the initial purchase price being so low, factoring in the cost of the add-on antenna, the iPAQ is still far cheaper than some less accomplished competitors.

The iPAQ 314 features full maps of Western Europe, a 4.3in widescreen display with vivid colour reproduction. Computer Active especially enjoyed the range of additional multi-media features which provide entertainment to users on the move.

Personal Computer World was pleasantly surprised by the iPAQ 314. It worked well for both navigation and multimedia, in which aspect the magazine thought it a cut above the rest. Its price was extremely good for the amount of features you are getting.
