"The 1400 is an excellent choice if A4 photo printing is the primary task. On the other hand, this printer definitely doesn't have speed on its side."

"... If you're on a tight budget, rest assured there's no need to stretch it to the more expensive devices here, as the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is a fine printer. It doesn't carry off the Labs Winner award, but only by a whisker ..."

Stylus in the eye of the beholder

Computer Shopper magazine awarded the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 A3 ink jet printer 5 out of 5 stars, this score coming from issue (6/2007).
The A3 ink jet printer was reviewed by 10 magazines with special attention paid to performance, and, all in all, was fairly well received.
Epson's Stylus Photo 1400 is an A3 photo printer capable of producing borderless prints on both A4 and A3 sized paper using six inks from either a computer or a PictBridge enabled digital camera. There is, however, no screen or card reader integrated into the device on which to preview prints or view settings and ink status warnings. In terms of speed, MacUser's review of the product in March 2007 admitted that while it was in no terms a 'speedy printer' when dealing with colour prints, it was fine for text. Cnet did however proffer the caveat, that as it is not a printer intended for office use, text speed will be nowhere near as fas as those from an office laser or inkjet printer.

General praise was heaped on its colour printing, but all reviewers agreed that where the printer stumbled was in monochromatic prints, Cnet going so far as to say that it was almost impossible to create a neutral black-and-white print on the printer due to its lack of the extra light- and light-light black cartridges found on more expensive models.
