"... It is easy to use though and much more portable than a laptop; but it’s the excellent screen that is a real standout feature, even if it isn’t a widescreen, um, screen!" |

Summary of Epson P5000
The Epson P 5000 seems to have set itself up as the one to beat, coming out on top in a group test in TIPA - European Photo & Imaging Awards and EISA Awards magazines.
The media player was reviewed by 7 magazines with special attention paid to performance, convincing the majority of its quality.
Although primarily a photo viewer and external storage device, the Epson P-5000 is also a capable personal media player, incorporating support for MP3 music files and a variety of video formats including DivX and XviD and the newest darling of the digital video world h.264.
As a photo storage device, the P5000 is an accomplished product, offering an 80GB internal hard drive and support for SD and CompactFlash cards. The Photo Viewer gives the user the option of browsing and copying photos, both JPEG and RAW which can be zoomed to full resolution on the 640 x 480 pixel 4-inch display. This screen is praised highly by What Hi-Fi magazine, using four colours instead of three to create its 16.7 million colour gamut. In fact, the only real criticism that the magazine can level at it is that is relatively expensive, a view shared by What Camera magazine. Personal Computer World does, however, point out that the P-5000 is aimed at 'serious photographers', indeed stressing this point by adding, as does What Digital, that you could purchase a budget laptop for around the same money.
The Epson P-5000 scored highest in Practical Photography magazine (4/2007) with an overall rating of "outstanding" (5 out of 5 stars). TrustedReviews online magazine (2/2007), gave the product its lowest score; a rating of 7 out of 10 points, which says a lot about its quality.
The Epson Photo Viewer P5000 was also able to walk away with the "Recommended" (What Digital Camera 4/2007) prize.
With the great screen, capacious hard drive and great features for on-the-road photographers, the Epson P-5000 walks away from most tests with high praise and scores, with the only caveat being the exclusive price point and transfer times somewhat slower than a laptop.
