What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue 6/2009
Position 2/4 in test
"very good" (4 out of 5 stars)
Close to unassuming in design, Yamaha's RX-V3900 is, like its peers, focussed determinedly upon performance. Vast and bottomless delivery with perfect surround sound and comprehensive specs are only slightly diminished by the need for sharper attack. While the others give more excitement, for convincing depth this is the one.

Excellent HDMI features and control over video sources mark Yamaha's RX-V3900 AV receiver. Along with networked audio, the audio performance, particularly for music is only bettered by the Sony. Lack of DAB and some limitations in video adjustments are the main detractions.
