"... The biggest and most persistent bugbear is its touch-screen menu system. It's horrible. Buried somewhere you'll find all the settings, shooting modes and other tweaks you'd expect of a camcorder at this price, but finding them? Consistently? It's tricky, at best. Luckily, the HDR-CX105 makes up for these shortcomings when it comes to picture and sound. The Exmor lens and 1/4in CMOS image sensor do a great job of creating great, detailed images ... It's only in very low-light conditions that the lack of a video light becomes noticeable. Footage can be soft, but picture noise is lower than you'd expect given the camcorder's other limitations."

"... In all, the Sony HDR-CX105 is an impressive little camcorder. The touchscreen makes it easy to get around the menus and the video quality is excellent. Only the lack of Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, the mean 8GB storage space and comparatively high price stop this from getting full marks. ... A handy compact treat, the Sony HDR-CX105 provides the high-class Hi-Def video you desire."

With its conventional form factor, Sony's HDR-CX105E won't be turning heads like their HDR-TG3 did. Image quality is greatly improved though and its still small size makes it eminently portable. Along with shooting Full HD, the price makes it a true bargain.

Performing notably well in low light situations, Sony's HDR-CX100 manages this in a compact and stylish design. The optics though are not of commensurate quality and some uncomfortable navigation is in the interface. For the price there are better to be found.
