Let down by Sony's under-developed AppliCast service, Sony's 40W5500 remaining faults are on the minor side. Better bottom-end and improved SD playback are all it would take to make this a spectacular TV. As it stands, with the price of it, the 40W5500 is very easy to commend.

Sony's KDL-40W5500 40" LCD TV is a standout for Blu-ray, particularly in motion reproduction. Backlighting however has some inconsistency, which loses this model its fifth star, and the TV-tuners are nothing special.
