One of the most interesting qualities of macro lenses is that they barely show any distortion, and Sony's 100mm f/2.8 is no exception. IT Reviews praised its sharpness at all apertures and 1:1 magnification, but said that its price tag seemed a bit steep considering the AF is quite noisy and that it can be pretty slow due its lack of an internal motor. Good but not outstanding. |

Compared to Canon and Nikon's offerings, Photo Answers considered Sony's 100mm f/2.8 D to be overpriced. Due to its lack of a SSW motor, it's noisy when focusing, and although it sports a metal mount, the rest of the lens is plastic. The focusing ring didn't feel particularly smooth either. |
