"The Naite J105 proclaims to be an environmentally friendly phone and we can appreciate the efforts Sony Ericsson has made by using recycled plastic and water-based paints. However, there's no getting round the fact that a second-hand phone will probably be of greater benefit to the environment. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a low-cost basic candybar phone, this is entirely capable, if unexceptional."

"... while the fact that the handsfree kit is made from 100% recycled materials should be applauded, the lack of a 3.5mm jack and call answer button is both frustrating and baffling in equal measure. ... We salute Sony Ericsson for demonstrating to other manufacturers that even mobiles can be green(ish). The Naite may not be the most equipped handset and as a result we feel that it will only have niche appeal (eco-warriors, hippies and alike), but the fact that it is the first of a flurry of GreenHeart handsets from Sony Ericsson can only be good news for both us as the consumer, and dare we say it, the environment?"

"... the Sony Ericsson Naite is a phone of ups and downs. We love the keypad, but are dubious about the looks. We love the battery, but that screen's a bit disappointing. Then there's the camera! Two megapixels and no dedicated camera button? ... However, it really just comes down to a question of focus. If we expect a phone to be and do everything, we're always going to be disappointed. The truth is that the more we used the Sony Ericsson Naite, the more we grew to like it. ... The Sony Ericsson Naite has a lot to offer, including a strong keypad and green smug points, but its let down a little by the glare-happy screen and low-spec camera."

"The Sony Ericsson Naite is a solid yet largely uninspiring handset. Its green credentials are admirable, but it is expensive for a low-end mobile phone."

"very good" (7 out of 10 points)
"You won't find any touchscreen controls, flashy features or design frills on the Sony Ericsson Naite. This eco-friendly handset takes a comparatively straightforward approach to the business of being a mobile phone, and, besides its camera, it does a pretty good job. Simple to use and offering lengthy battery life, the Naite makes it easy to go green."
