"The Sony Ericsson Jalou is trying to achieve something very difficult by being a relatively inexpensive fashion phone and it does just about succeed. Certainly it looks nice, is tiny, and is perfectly adequate in terms of functionality. However, you do pay a small premium for its looks and size and the keypad is particularly poor so even non-techie users might find it a little lacking. As for the Dolce & Gabbana branded version, just don't go there."

"... Jalou manages to combine both style and specs into a tiny, fashionable chassis. The Facebook app is the real deal and we love the fact you get push notifications on messages, wall posts, pokes and the rest of it - it's actually better implemented here than on some smartphones. The camera is decent for uploading the odd photo to the web, and inclusion of HSDPA internet means you can actually use some of the phone's higher-spec media features like streaming YouTube and downloading from PlayNow Arena. If you're on the market for a phone that doubles as a mirror (and moonlights as a decent little media device), Jalou just might be up your catwalk."

"If you like a touch of bling with your ring-ring, the Sony Ericsson Jalou delivers a low-cost glammed up fashion phone. Of course, its brash, bright and angular design is aimed at a specific audience, so its appeal is limited. Under the bonnet though, it has a steady set of features and functions that you'd expect on a lower mid-level Sony Ericsson. Its plasticky feel and creaky keypad feel cheap, and we'd have liked a bigger display ... Aimed at the style-conscious female buyer on a tight budget, the Jalou is more high street than high fashion - but if its looks appeal to you, it has an okay set of features for the price."

"... There's 3G on board, a keypad that's nice and tactile and room for a microSD slot for stashing away tunes for listening to on the move. That said, the Sony Ericsson Jalou continues the infuriating tradition of eschewing a 3.5mm jack for the proprietary, not to mention hulking, Sony Ericsson charger and headphone port. ... If you're after a smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Jalou is not what you want. If you fancy a phone that looks cute and cool, but can handle the basics, and well, then you're in the right place. ... A decent stab at resurrecting the fashion phone, even if Sony Ericsson's refusal to use a 3.5mm jack remains infuriating."

"It could have been all style and no substance, but the Sony Ericsson Jalou turns out to be a remarkably versatile and convenient piece of technology, packing loads of features into a tiny package."
