A good performer with a fast processor and plenty of RAM, the Samsung also features a GPS receiver and fast 3G data transfers. A few downsides that PDA Essentials found included the rather poor camera and and the proprietary connectors that Samsung has seen fit to use for everything from USB to headphone jacks. Battery life on the other hand is impressive, with two batteries coming bundled with the device giving you a bit of headroom while away from a power point.

Despite featuring a wealth of useful features and its easy-to-use touchpad controls backed up by a more traditional touch-screen, the SGH-i780's screen was too small for PDA Essentials to be able to recommend it. If Samsung were to up the size and resolution of the screen, they would surely have a winner on their hands.

The i780 is worth a look for those of you who are fans of Windows Mobile. It's mini-trackpad and keyboard gives it rather bulky measurements. CNet.co.uk thought that despite it looking like a Blackberry it still doesn't offer enough to make Blackberry addicts throw away their pride and joy and trade up.

ZDNet found the SGH-i780's mini-touchpad to be a rather love-it-or-hate-it navigation method, but with a standard touchscreen also in attendance, they did not feel it was a deal-breaker. The inclusion of Opera browser is a real improvement over Internet Explorer, but the screen may be a little small for any serious web browsing.
