Issue 9/2009 Position 3/6 in test |
A powerful system with weighty bass, Onkyo TX-SR607 produces an enthusiastic sound, well suited to all-action films, though less suited to subtleties of quiet scenes. Sports six HDMI inputs and supports Dolby Pro Logic IIz surround sound, but only 1080i upscaling rather than 1080p.

Issue 6/2009 Single test |
Despite being an impeccable performer, Onkyo's TX-SR607 multichannel receiver isn't quite up to the involvement and dexterity of the best. Stacks of connectivity and features, convincing sound and broad surround sound ability, it is nonetheless a device with plenty to impress.

It runs frighteningly hot, and doesn't have 7.1 RCA-in, but gives excellent sound even if you have a 9.1 system. Onkyo's TX-SR607 is splendid and everything you could hope for in a home cinema AV receiver, just make sure your speakers are equally good.

"Recommended"
While the specs are impressive enough, it is the sublime audio reproduction that immediately catches your attention. It's the simplicity of use though, with all this flexibility that really makes Onkyo's TX-SR 607 outstanding.
