Value for money: 17 out of 20 points, "Recommended"

Few advanced compacts manage to offer the balance between handling, advanced controls and ease of use that the XZ2 strikes, mainly due to its excellent touchscreen and user interface. The lens is fast at f/1.8-2.5, and despite its disappointing performance at high ISOs, Camera Labs thought it worth recommending thanks to its superb AF, accessory port and overall versatility.

"... Its 1080p video is generally good ... though it does sometimes struggle to focus. But better images and more pocketable builds can be found for less cash."

The only thing that Pocket-lint did not like about the XZ-2 was its high price tag, since were it not for that, it would be a no-brainer thanks to its nice looks, dual-function lens ring, fast f/1.8-2.5 lens, hotshoe, accessory port and great image quality for such a small sensor. However, at this price you have the E-PM2 and Sony's RX100, both of which sweep the floor with the XZ-2.

Value for money: 4 out of 5 stars, "Highly recommended"

Everything about the Stylus XZ-2 is a step above its predecessor, from its larger grip to its image processing, improved interface and controls. ePHOTOzine loved its dual control ring and tilting display, as well as the art filters borrowed from Olympus' own PEN series. Despite its high price, the features, performance and versatility it offers make it superb value for the money.

TechRadar approved of the sensor and processor of the Oympus XZ-2 and were pleased with its handling. The screen can be tilted which is a nice help for shooting landscapes that are not at eye level, and the hybrid control ring smooths out the zooming process. The main threat to its success comes from the Sony RX100, so image quality will be a massive factor in how well this camera does.

EPHOTOzine noted that Olympus have certainly made a lot of changes to create the XZ-2. It is more expensive than its older sibling, but it has a host of new and improved features to prove that it is worth the money. The new sensor and tilting screen add a new dimension to use and the upgraded grip and new lens ring controlling switch add ease and comfort.
