Nikon's Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.8G short telephoto lens is thought of as a great tool for portrait photography, on DX and FX format cameras, as it puts a little distance between you and the subject. Camera Labs think it provides excellent value for money, as it's the lowest price 85mm compatible large aperture lens with an AF. Image quality is great and so it the build quality.

Nikon's AF-S 85mm f/1.8G is an extraordinary offering that's worth every penny of its high-end price tag. Its performance is nothing short of brilliant in all respects, from its near lack of chromatic aberration to its razor-sharp pictures at all apertures. Photo Answers did suggest though that if you own an APS-C-sensor DSLR, its AF-S 50mm f/1.8G stablemate is a better option.

Value for money: 4 out of 5 stars, "Highly recommended"

Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G Lens is an updated version of the original lens, released a few decades ago and it has a good build quality. Images are sharp at the centre at wide apertures and across the frame when stopped down, though falloff is obvious at wide apertures. EPHOTOzine say that though it's quite expensive, it produces generally great results.
