"Buy It!"
"... The battery lasts for a few days in very light use, but surfing the web or running lots of applications at once - something Android, unlike current iPhone models, can do without fuss - will sap it more quickly. Expect to recharge every day if surfing the web a lot. An 8GB memory card is included for storing music, photos and downloaded applications. And, unlike Motorola's other Android phone the Dext, both the software and GPS ran snappily and effectively. ... Ugly to look at but brilliant to use, this is the best Android phone for keen email users."

"The Milestone is a much more accomplished handset than the Dext, Motorola’s previous Android offering. It’s faster, has a much better screen, supports multi-touch input and is laden down with features. In most respects it’s also a better handset than the HTC Hero, but we’re not sure it’s going to do quite as well as that phone, mainly because we can see the styling putting a lot of people off. But the Milestone certainly shows that if Motorola could come up with a decent looking design for its next Android handset it would have a real peach on its hands."

Cons: Poor-quality QWERTY keyboard; Unattractive physical design; Vanilla rather than skinned Android."

"The Motorola Milestone is a great phone, and it's easy to see why it caused a stir in the US. But time moves quickly in the mobile market, and Google’s Nexus One trumps it in most areas. Sure the Nexus lacks multi-touch but that may be reversed in the future. Google's own is faster and its 2.1 OS is visually better."

"A good list of specifications and a lovely screen can't quite make up for patchy performance and below par battery life."

"... HTC's Hero is probably its closest competitor; like the iPhone it lacks a keyboard, but its design is much more attractive and HTC's Sense UI and social aggregation features make it much easier to use. We also missed the Hero's smooth oleophobic screen coating. The Milestone is no faster than the Hero either, although it remains to be seen whether Motorola brings out firmware updates to optimise Android further. Overall, the Milestone only lives up to its name on paper ... While the design may be a matter of taste, good battery life and a QWERTY keyboard don't make up for a plain Android experience and clunky design."

"Hot Product"
"Where the UK bound Motorola Milestone differs over the US Droid is mainly in its multi-touch support and the lack of CDMA support (i.e., so you can run it on UK operators). While the lack of Google Maps Navigation is annoying, the inclusion of Motonav means that it's no real deal breaker here. Like the Motorola Droid, where the Motorola Milestone succeeds is that it offers you a state-of-the-art experience of Android 2.0 on any network, as it isn't currently locked as an exclusive to any one operator. ... This is a fantastic phone, but would we personally choose it over the Hero? Not if the Hero, as suggested by HTC, will be getting Android 2.0. ..."

Tired: Awful physical keyboard, messy media player, appalling camera."

"Editor's Choice"
"The Motorola Milestone is a fast, powerful and feature-packed smart phone with a stunning screen and great connectivity. The slide-out keyboard is as flat as a pancake, we still pine for the missing Google Maps Navigation feature, and it lacks the style of the iPhone or the Palm Pre, but we can't deny that this is the smart phone for the user who wants it all."

"The Milestone marks another step forward in Motorola's renaissance. It's a joy to use, thanks to its sensitive screen and decent, if not the very best, Qwerty keyboard. The tweaks to the Android OS are welcome, if not exactly ground-breaking and though the camera could have been a bit better, and we're bewildered by the decision to omit Motoblur, it's a top quality smartphone with satnav."
