"An ideal TV for wall-mounting, but disappointing image quality considering the claimed contrast ratio and LED backlighting."

"Plus points: Lovely design, very bright and colourful pictures, good standard def scaling.
Minus points: Pink tone to whites, limited viewing angle, a few processing side effects, not quite as good with contrast as other LEDs."

"The LG SL9000 is an excellent blend of style and performance. Too often with an LED TV you end up paying the Earth without really getting the performance bang for your hard earned buck. This set offers a tasteful, non-ostentatious design. It's very slim without being a size zero, offers fantastic usability and a solid, if not mind-blowing picture. The sound syncing was a frustration and it's a shame to have to switch off all the audio technology to get it fixed while watching from external sources, but otherwise the experience of this TV is top notch. ..."

"The 42SL9000 is a great looking TV set - aside from that bright power light - that produces very good pictures. If you have HD sources, it’s well worth a look. But it’s a shame there are no HD tuners built in and that the otherwise capable media playback is limited to USB, rather than having a network link."

Value for money: 8 out of 10 points
"The 42SL9000 certainly rates as a good LED LCD TV debut for LG, and its design and price will doubtless - deservedly - win it plenty of fans. But at the same time it gets just enough wrong to remind us that it is indeed a debut product, while one or two other brands are now on to their second generation of LED machines."

"Glorious to look at, exceptionally well-specified and boasting plenty of features, the LG 42SL9000 makes an admirable attempt at stealing Samsung's super-slim-TV crown. But a few shortcomings in the picture-quality department make it a likeable rather than irresistible TV, and, unusually for LG, it struggles to justify its cost."
