Thanks to its large viewfinder, lens rings, switches and buttons, the FinePix HS50EXR handles pretty much like a DSLR, something that makes up for its average photo and video quality. Expert Reviews were also very impressed by its excellent viewfinder, and said that, at 8MP, noise levels and sharpness were very good. Overall, however, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200's pictures are better.

The most eye-catching features of the FinePix HS50EXR, its 42x zoom and optical image stabilisation, are also its best assets according to TechRadar, who complained about its lack of a touchscreen or Wi-Fi connectivity but praised its excellent electronic viewfinder. Image quality, as is usually the case with Fujifilm, is fantastic, and build quality and handling are top notch.

Value for money: 9 out of 10 points, "Recommended"

It's not the best choice if you're looking for something light and small, but the HS50 EXR is certainly one of the best options on the market for those wanting maximum versatility out of a bridge camera, together with top notch performance, great picture quality, an excellent viewfinder and superb ergonomics. For Trusted Reviews, it's well worth the asking price and then some.

Compactness is not the FinePix HS50 EXR's strong suit and its video footage is disappointing, but its AF system is as superb as Fuji claims, its viewfinder is excellent and image quality is first class even at high ISOs, with RAW support a very welcome bonus. Sporting a 50x zoom, in What Digital Camera's opinion this is one of the best bridge cameras you can get for around £400.

Value for money: 3.5 out of 5 stars, "Recommended"

Despite some complaints such as its less than optimal image quality at the long end of the lens, plastic tripod mount and fiddly manual zoom ring, the FinePix HS50EXR impressed ePHOTOzine with its battery life, vivid colours, rotating screen, superb macro mode, RAW support, manual controls, nippy performance and EXR mode. A truly fantastic and versatile camera.

Superzoom cameras always entail compromises, but the FinePix HS50EXR does very well indeed on all fronts according to Pocket-lint. Its maximum aperture of f/2.8 at the wide end of the zoom is quite impressive, as is its 24-1000mm range, and image quality, AF and handling are all top notch. Its problem is its price, since other rivals offer better image quality or a constant aperture.
