"average" (3 out of 5 stars)
Creative's tiny device packs in a whopping 32GB off flash memory and features a vibrant and sharp LCD screen but as far as What Hi-Fi? magazine is concerned, its sound quality and relative high price let it down. Still, the magazine suggests it may be worth it for those who want to enjoy mobile video without having to compromise on size. Products tested: Creative Labs Zen (32GB)

"Okay, so the actual screen is a tad small for long viewing sessions, but as an actual MP3 player that also allows you to watch the occasional half-hour TV show, the Zen offers excellent value for money." Products tested: Creative Labs Zen (4 GB)

"A truly personal media player that brings together a great screen, great sound and great navigation. An iPod killer? It's certainly a fantastic player."

"The Zen looks like a perfect miniature multimedia player. It's easy to use and sounds great, but its battery life, average screen and relatively poor video compatibility mean that it fails to live up to its potential." Products tested: Creative Labs Zen (4 GB)

"A decent showing from Creative, but the Creative Zen 4GB suffers from comparison with Apple's ultra-desirable iPod nano. Video playback and the SD Card slot are plus points, however." Products tested: Creative Labs Zen (4 GB)

"Creative has come up trumps with its new, flash-based, mini media player. Pitched as a direct competitor to the iPod nano it beats it on most fronts with the one exception being that its physical controls aren't quite as nice to use. ..." Products tested: Creative Labs Zen (4 GB)

"While for us this is no iPod killer, it is a very, very good alternative to Apple's 5th Generation iPod and iTunes offering for those keen to use other services on the market."
