Due to their slight lack of deep bass, the K550s don't have the authority of their rivals when it comes to reproducing explosions or high-energy music, but their superb midband makes them a great choice for dialogue-heavy films or music genres that benefit from openness and cleanness. Home Cinema Choice also praised their classy design and comfort.

Value for money: 8 out of 10 points

The price tag of AKG's K550s seemed very reasonable to Trusted Reviews for what they offer: a solid and very comfortable build, a remarkably open sound and wide stage and a flat character that will delight some listeners and be a deal breaker for those more used to having more bass punch. The 3m long cable is not suitable for portable use, but that aside, they're a great buy.

"... these headphones are designed for at-home use. They are lightweight and comfy though ... a spacious, speaker-like delivery that excels in terms of fine detail, dynamics and punch."

"Test Winner"

"FOR: Beefy build; comfortable; spacious, detailed and natural sound.
AGAINST: Pretty big; sound more like £250-worth than they look." Info: This product was retested here 10/2012 by What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision and received the same final score.
