Asus Home Server TS mini PC Pro 1/2010 - The TS mini is Asus’ first Windows Home Server system, a simple black micro-tower that’s almost featureless save for four dim blue LEDs at the front. Round the back are a generous six USB ports and two eSATA connectors, and that’s just as well because internally there’s only room for one extra 3.5in drive, in addition to the preinstalled 1TB Hitachi unit. Review details: Single Test. One server was reviewed and rated on features & design, value for money and performance.
Synology DiskStation DS712+ ZDNet 10/2011 - Aimed at small businesses, the DiskStation DS712+ from Synology is a NAS device with a 1.8GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

Synology RackStation RS2211+ PC Pro 7/2011 - There are many SMB NAS manufacturers, but only Synology has taken storage expansion seriously, first using eSATA ports for expansion and now allowing the RS2211+ to be connected to a RX1211 expansion rack.
Synology RackStation RS2211+ IT PRO 7/2011 - The RackStation RS2211+ is Synology's most ambitious NAS appliance to date, using an Infiniband connection and being scalable up to a jawdropping 66TB.
Synology DiskStation DS3611xs ZDNet 7/2011 - Just a quick look at the DiskStation DS3611xs's 8GB of RAM, dual-core processor, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and you'll see that it's much more server-like than most storage appliances. Add to this, the fact that it can be set up with 10GbE to bring super-fast iSCSI access to 100TB of storage space, and this unit can easily be considered a mid-range device - though it's far less pricey and easier to manage than many others.

Buffalo Drivestation Quad USB 3.0 Expert Reviews 6/2011 - When a two-bay external hard disk simply can’t provide enough storage space for your needs, the logical progression is a four-bay unit such as Buffalo’s DriveStation Quad. The huge array contains four 1TB hard disks, with the option of running them as a single huge disk or in a RAID array to protect your data.
Buffalo Linkstation Pro Quad The Inquirer 6/2011 - There was a time when network attached storage just referred to a hard disk hanging from an Ethernet cable, but that's all ancient history now. Today's NAS devices are much more sophisticated and their capabilities extend far beyond simply keeping your files.
Qnap TS-559 Pro+: Familiar Network Storage With A New CPU Tom's Hardware 5/2011 - It's a good idea to use two CPU cores to speed up multiple drives in RAID 5 or 6 arrays and it's even better to increase clock speeds. We put Qnap's TS-559 Pro+ with an Atom D525 dual-core CPU to the test: is it any faster than devices with Atom D510?
Synology RackStation RS2211+ ZDNet 5/2011 - With its highly scalable RackStation RS2211+, NAS vendor Synology is clearly looking to move upmarket from its small-business heartland. Enterprises may be attracted by the 66TB of RAID-protected storage on offer, and support for the same add-on SME features found on other Synology appliances is another advantage. However, the RackStation RS2211+ lacks options that some enterprise customers may be looking for.
Synology RackStation RS2211+ V3.co.uk 4/2011 - Synology has had a fair amount of success in the small business network-attached storage (NAS) market with a mix of fast and affordable desktop and rack-mount appliances. Now it's looking to up its profile even further with a highly scalable new RackStation RS2211+, sporting up to 66TB of storage space plus dual Gigabit LAN connectivity and a number of extra high availability features.
Synology DiskStation DS1511+ PC Pro 4/2011 - Not only does Synology’s latest NAS appliance claim impressive performance, but it also looks to have the highest expansion potential we’ve yet seen for a desktop box. The DS1511+ borrows the sleek five-bay chassis of the DS1010+, and doubles the number of eSATA expansion ports to two.
Synology DiskStation DS411slim Expert Reviews 4/2011 - The DS411slim is different to the majority of NAS enclosures. Instead of taking 3.5in desktop hard disks, it uses smaller 2.5in laptop hard disks. This allows it to be noticeably smaller than other NAS enclosures, but laptop disks tend to cost more per gigabyte and come in smaller capacities. For example, four 500GB 2.5in disks come to around £160, whereas a single 2TB disk 3.5in costs just £65.
Synology RackStation RS411 IT PRO 3/2011 - Synology’s new RackStation RS411 is one of the lowest cost rack mounted NAS appliances on the market. It’s fast and feature packed, but there are some limitations so read this review to find out more.
Synology DiskStation DS411j TrustedReviews 1/2011 - Call us strange, but at TrustedReviews we love a good NAS device. The combination of a safe repository for our data, and – in most – a range of features and abilities designed to augment that storage capacity make for a winning combination. Over the past few years Synology has been consistently rolling out high quality NAS systems, with last year’s DS410j, for example, impressing us with its low price, and plentiful capabilities. Good things, therefore, are to be expected of this year’s model, the DS411j.
Synology DS411j PC Pro 1/2011 - Synology’s range of NAS devices reach right into the business-class stratosphere, but the DiskStation DS411j is altogether more modest. With four disk bays, Synology’s excellent DiskStation Manager 3.0 front-end and a host of features, the DS411j has its sights set on your home network.

NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems are special mass storage devices which can be connected to a local network and be accessed by the computers connected to it. They are normally equipped with fast hard drives and RAM as well as quick-access caches so as to cope with large amounts of data in a very short time. Their core competence is in file-based services such as NFS or SMB / CIFS, which is why such systems are often referred to as “Filers”. The two kinds of NAS systems are NAS hard drive systems and NAS servers. In NAS hard drive systems, the NAS is completely specialized in its function as external data storage, so all other aspects, like the possibility of functioning as a computer or server, are ignored. This applies particularly to the possibility to connect any peripherals. It is in the truest sense of the word an external hard drive that can be addressed very quickly through the appropriate protocols and services by all computers connected to the network. NAS servers, on the other hand, go one step further and are not so limited. They offer not only pure data services and storage capacity, but can also host other services such as Internet access with firewall function, Web server or mail client. This means that these NAS systems can be accessed from the Internet like regular servers.
