Anyone looking to buy a new PC is sure to benefit from recent processor price cuts. As you'll see from this month's Labs, £600 is all you need to spend to get a computer with an incredibly powerful processor that is capable of dealing with even the most difficult tasks. We were also pleasantly surprised at the high-quality components in the six systems that we received for this Labs. They all have plenty of room for expansion, 19in widescreen monitors and at least 2GB of RAM. All but one come Windows Vista Home Premium, which means you get a lot of PC for a low price.    More

Computer Buyer & Upgrades

It's traditionally, and annoyingly, the case that while PC hardware gets cheaper, the demands of software increase, so you still end up paying the same for a usable system. in the last year, though, powerful desktop PCs have got cheap. Inexpensive dual-core processors can make short work of even demanding tasks, and the falling cost of LCD monitors has helped too. However, there's still such a thing as false economy, and some PCs, though OK on paper, don't have the quality of peripherals or the upgrade potential to make them real bargains.    More

Many of us dream of the day when our PC needs are met by a discreet stylish device, tucked away beneath our televisions, but the media-centre revolution hasn't taken off quite yet.    More

Dual-core is the way to go for prospective PC buyers. Intel's Core 2 Duo chips currently lead the way. The E6850's appearance in this month's chart is a bit of a surprise - as a general rule of thumb, the E6750 and E6700 are better options. But all of these processors are incredibly fast and would make a good addition to any £750 PC.    More
