"Canon PIXMA MX850"

On test: Canon Pixma MX850
Canon's range of PIXMA multifunction printers are well made and have good feature sets, but most of them are aimed at digital photo enthusiasts, using six, coloured inks and a second black to provide high-quality photo prints and fast plain paper printing. These printers are in the MP range, but there is a parallel MX range, too, with a slightly different emphasis. The MX four-colour printers, again with a second black, are aimed at the SOHO market, though they'll still make a good attempt at a photo. This PIXMA MX850 is the top of this second range and offers pretty much everything you would expect from an inkjet all-in-one.    More

Although multifunction devices seem to be all the rage these days, especially in the small office/home office (SOHO) market, there’s still room for low-cost single-function printers designed to do one thing well — print. Epson knows desktop printing as well as any company, and has produced many excellent personal printers, in particular, over the years. However, Epson is less prominent in the business space, which is dominated by the likes of HP and Lexmark. Epson has just one business inkjet printer — the Stylus D120, which costs well under £100 and delivers high-quality output.    More

On test: Canon Selphy ES20
Of the four major printer makers, only Canon has chosen not to use ink-jet technology for its standalone photo printers. It has made a considerable success of the thermal dye-sublimation technology it bases its Selphy range of printers around and one of the latest to join the range, the Selphy ES20, offers a wide range of features, built into its attractively styled case.    More

"Samsung CLP-660ND"

Samsung's CLP-660ND colour laser printer has a lot of competition in its price range. While it's a decent printer in most respects, its subpar graphics quality dampens our overall enthusiasm for it.    More

"Brother HL-4070CDW Colour Laser Printer"

We recently reviewed the Brother HL-4040CN colour laser printer and were generally impressed with this £300 offering in the SOHO market. It's more expensive sibling, the HL-4070CDW, has three upgrades on offer for the extra £200 in its asking price: duplex print, wireless connection and a PostScript emulation, in the form of Brother's BR-Script 3 page description language.    More
