"Quads singing in the middle"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: Quad 9L2
When Quad released its last generation of speakers, our response was a little ambivalent. While certain aspects of performance had been improved, we felt these were at the expense of accuracy, timing and dynamics. So we have been waiting for the 9L2s with interest.    More

"Impossible to love the Missions"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: Mission E5 5.1 Package
£2200 is a lot of money to most people. It's enough to buy a second-hand car for example, or a really nice holiday. So if a speaker package demands that kind of cash, it has to be pretty special. the Mission E5 system is anything but.    More

"Music come rain or shine"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: Soundcast OutCast
Fancy some tunes while you wrestle with your barbecue? Soundcast's new OutCast / iCast combination could be just the ticket for you.    More

"BoBo your iPod sounds today"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: Lars & Ivan BK-21 BoBo
Lars & Ivan is a chummy-sounding name, isn't it? The company refers to the BK-21's speakers as 'BoBo' in its literature - not so much chummy as twee. And then we find that 'BoBo' derives from 'bohemian' and 'bourgeois', which is when it all gets properly weird.    More

"KEF times SE 'eggs' to perfection"

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
Issue: 10/2007
On test: KEF KHT 3005 SE
Some things get better with time: malt whiskey, for instance, or Blonde on Blonde. But in the ever changing world of consumer electronics, the reverse is often true. In most cases, as you'll see elsewhere in this issue, last year's must-buy swiftly turns into this year's has-been. Loudspeakers, though, are a rare exception. A properly designed speaker can be competitive for years, and if the basics are right in the first place, a few development tweaks can often be enough to make a good product great.    More
