Phones

There is a small, but significant amount of well-considered specialized magazines which use their own testing procedures to provide extensive technical information on aspects of mobile phones such as signal power, camera quality or radiation levels. Conversely, those who wish to know how a certain mobile phone feels in the hand or how easy it is to use, have a much wider array of online magazines at their disposal. Not counting consumers' opinions, these websites are often the main source on specific topics such as Android phones or Apple's iPhone. The same goes for apps, which are usually analysed more comprehensively in online magazines than in print magazines, which tend to be more hardware-oriented. Often these magazines also cover landline phones, which apart from some specialized forums, are not well represented in online publications. Mobile and fixed telephony providers are a whole different kettle of fish, and information regarding network coverage, service and contract issues is best obtained directly from consumers' opinions – not only regular users, but also industry insiders. The few reviews that can be found in magazines are usually very extensive.
